Event Details

Pre-registration will guarantee you a seat if we hit capacity. Pre-registering also helps us print the right number of programmes and plan effectively.

A public forum including panels, workshops, training sessions and speakers addressing media and communications issues.

 Media Democracy Day is based on three themes:

  • Education - understanding how the media shapes our world and our democracy
  • Protest - against a media system based on commercialization and exclusiveness
  • Change - calls for media reforms that respond to public interests, promote diversity, and ensure community representation and accountability.

 

Media Democracy Day 2009: Beyond the Frame

Do you believe in democracy and free expression? Do you want your opinion to count rather then have it swept under the carpet by corporate media? If you answered “yes” to the previous questions, Media Democracy Day is your day!

When: Saturday, November 7th – 11am-6pm

Where: At the Vancouver Public Library, 350 West Georgia Street

Media should inform, liberate and empower all members of our society. On Media Democracy Day, the public has a chance to share and discuss ways in which we can work toward this goal of democratizing media together.

Make your voice heard on Saturday, November 7th at the Vancouver Public Library (350 West Georgia Street). There, you can celebrate Media Democracy Day with other democratic media enthusiasts. From 11am to 6pm, you will have a chance to attend exciting workshops, panels and a media democracy fair. You will meet some of Vancouver’s most dynamic and influential journalists, media innovators, and social activists, including:

Rafe Mair (Political Journalist and former BC Cabinet Minister),

Gwen Barlee (Western Canada Wilderness Committee),
